Ultrasound has become one of the essential diagnostic aids in the field of medicine due to increased abnormalities and defects in the organs. It uses high-frequency sound waves to capture live images from the body on to the monitor. It is also called sonography. Gastrointestinal ultrasound is a practical, safe, cheap, and reproducible diagnostic tool in inflammatory bowel disease, gaining global prominence amongst clinicians.

An ultrasound of the gastrointestinal tract if a preferred method to detect and assess acute abdominal pain. Understanding the embryological processes of the intestinal tract assists in the interpretation of abnormal sonographic findings.

This module teaches you how to prepare for and perform an ultrasound examination of the gastrointestinal tract.
